Located in one of the most important economic centers in Alaska, Valdez is the terminus of the 800-mile trans-Alaska pipeline. The community business climate is a mixture of oil industry, commercial fishing, tourism, U.S. Coast Guard and state-city agencies. A large percentage of the city s population of 4,498 has a college or technical education. Valdez High School is a comprehensive four-year high school. Current enrollment is 228 students in grades nine through twelve. The Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges accredits Valdez High School.
