- Alexander Rose Elementary School is a Title I Transitional Kindergarten6th grade school serving approximately 500 students and 65 dedicated staff members in Milpitas, California. The mission of Rose School is to empower academic excellence and celebrate diversity in a safe and joyful learning community through our vision of Rose School as a community of lifelong learners who embrace our unique strengths, contribute with compassion, and inspire boundless hope for a sustainable future. Our Rose community reflects the rich cultural diversity of the City of Milpitas and the broader region. Our students and families speak more than 19 languages and represent over 30 countries. Approximately 47% of our students are English Learners, and 50% qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Many students will be the first in their families to attend college. This diversity strengthens our school identity and deepens our commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive instruction.
- We take great pride in our staff community. Many of our teachers and support staff have served at Rose for a decade or more, with several having attended Rose themselves or having children currently enrolled. Our leadership team supports 18 general education classrooms and two Special Day Classes (SDC) for students with moderate to severe needs. A signature practice at Rose is our inclusive "All Students are Our Students" approach, in which general education and special education staff work collaboratively to design learning environments where every student belongs and has access to meaningful, rigorous instruction. Students are additionally served by a Resource Specialist (RSP), Intervention TOSA, Science Specialist, STEAM teacher, speech-language pathologists, school psychologist, paraeducators, secretaries, student nutrition services staff, day and night custodians, and campus monitors.
- We continue to partner with community organizations such as Pacific Clinics, Science Is Elementary, RAFT, Odyssey of the Mind, Think Together, Love Milpitas, the Mural Initiative, the San Jose State Spartans, the San Jose Earthquakes, the San Francisco 49ers, and Air Tutors to expand academic and social-emotional supports for students. In 20252026, Rose launched a new after-school Exploratory Program that offers students a wide range of enrichment experiences led by teachers and community partners. Programs include cooking, art, dance, running club, chess, author studies, scrapbooking, tutoring, leadership opportunities, and other interest-based experiences that help students discover their passions, build confidence, and strengthen connections with school. These enrichment opportunities are intentionally designed to be accessible and inclusive, ensuring students with diverse learning needs are able to participate alongside their peers. The program continues to grow each year in response to student interest and family feedback.
- Over the past five years, Rose has deepened its implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) as a central component of our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Students are explicitly taught our expectations of ROAR-Be Respectful, Open-minded, Ambitious, and Responsible- and are recognized for demonstrating these values across all learning environments. Monthly ROAR Rallies build community, celebrate student success, reinforce expectations, and uplift our Core Values, which include Compassionate Communication, Perseverance, Motivation, Responsibility, Inclusivity, and Creative Problem Solving. These systems serve as another signature practice, reinforcing a shared culture of belonging, empathy, and collective responsibility. Rose earned PBIS Gold Recognition from the California PBIS Coalition in 2022 and has continued to refine and strengthen its Tier 1 and Tier 2 systems since that time.
- As a professional learning community, Rose educators work collaboratively to ensure that all students-general education and SDC-are our students. Teachers meet in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze data, identify priority standards, align instruction, and plan targeted interventions and enrichment. Monthly PLC workdays and Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) collaboration support continuous refinement of instructional practices and schoolwide systems that maintain academic rigor while supporting the whole child. Inclusive practices are embedded throughout this work, with staff intentionally planning for universal access, differentiated instruction, and targeted supports within the least restrictive environment.
- Beginning in the 20232024 school year and continuing into 20252026, Rose implemented an expanded intervention model designed to address academic and social-emotional gaps that emerged following the COVID-19 pandemic. This model includes after-school small-group instruction, targeted literacy interventions grounded in the Science of Reading and Orton-Gillingham multisensory practices, and expanded math support using open-ended tasks, counting collections, and rich problem-solving structures. These supports are coordinated through MTSS to ensure students receive timely, inclusive services while remaining connected to their classrooms and school community. Through a three-year district MTSS grant, certificated and classified staff are also progressing toward formal MTSS certification to strengthen our capacity to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health needs of all students.
- Alexander Rose Elementary School continues to be a welcoming, joyful, and inclusive learning community rooted in strong relationships and high expectations. Our signature practice of inclusive, student-centered systems reflects MUSD's strategic commitments to building a Culture of We, empowering every learner, and focusing services to ensure full engagement and growth. Our focus on rigorous instruction, student choice, STEAM opportunities, and whole-child development ensures that every Rose Tiger has the opportunity to shine-academically, socially, and as a valued member of our school community.
